Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria; January 07, 2018; Kukeri are elaborately costumed Bulgarian men and women who perform traditional rituals intended to scare away evil spirits. The kukeri walk and dance through villages to scare away evil spirits with their costumes and the sound of their bells. The Kukeri festival in Blagoevgrad is organised the first weekend of the new year. About 1200 participants take part in the street parade.
